This is a German shade made in the 1920s. Typically, the panels consist of faded, punctured paper, so it is great to see an example with complete, bright inserts. The starting price is not unreasonable, although as the seller intimates, the brace that would fit in the slots toward the top is missing. Take that into account when considering whether to place a bid.

VTG HALLOWEEN GERMANY 20's-30's, BOX WITH 10 DIECUT DECORATIONS
Although it is nice to see an unusual set of items amidst the Ebay dreck, given the condition of the box and the incomplete number of diecuts in decidedly less than perfect condition, the seller is asking for a very aggressive price. Naturally, I wish her well, but I think a more realistic number is in the $500-550 range.
Rare Large thick Vintage Halloween Window Pane Die cut - Germany
I just saw this pending sale on Ruby Lane for this highly desirable German window pane diecut. The lucky buyer got a true bargain at $825. Wow! I sure wish I had seen this first as the seller left gobs of money on the figurative table.
03/31 Update: The fortunate buyer contacted me to say she actually negotiated the price down to $675. Wow!
VINTAGE WHIRL-O HALLOWEEN FORTUNE AND STUNT GAME & FORTUNE VERSES
The gem of the lot is the "24 Fortune Verses" envelope. The set was made by Whitney, a company that went out of business in 1943. This is a desirable set in that the simple fortune verses were often cut up and discarded. You see the envelope now and again but to find a completely extant example is a fun challenge.
04/06 Update: I am not surprised that this lot brought $214.37.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN BLACK CAT BOX, with doll inside
The box with an image of a common Beistle diecut is definitely not vintage. The POS doll contained within may or may not be - it is outside of my area of expertise.
2 3/4" Tall Vintage German Papier Mache Halloween Pumpkin Lantern Excellent Cond
This is one of a set of eight fantasy JOLs imported from Germany beginning in the mid-1990s. They have decorative value only. Don't be fooled...
Vtg Germany Halloween Toy Tea Set JOL Pumpkin Teapot Cups Saucers Cream Sugar
This is at least the second time this seller has tried to unload this set. It was listed in late September 2012 with an opening bid of $1,900. Here is what I wrote then: "These are all great items (especially the small cups and saucers) and appropriately marked, but the opening price is already a fully valued number. I think the seller is making an error starting so high as that price will engender few bids. Why not start the lot at $500 and let the vagaries of the auction setting determine the price?"
The seller is slowly making progress in the right direction. They have listed it with a Buy-It-Now price of $1,695 with a willingness to accept offers. Given the described condition of the pieces, I feel this set is worth in the $1,100 to $1,400 range depending on your tolerance for imperfection.
Early Large Pumpkin Lantern
This large German JOL, along with three other items, is being offered by a pioneer in the field of collecting vintage Halloween memorabilia, someone truly in the vanguard of holiday collecting. There was a profile of her collection in a magazine from the 1980s that was an inspiration to me as to how she displayed candy containers. The very large doll house I use to showcase ~35 of my containers was an idea long in gestation arising directly from this article. Sadly, I personally inspected her collection in the summer of 1997 and found much of it stored so haphazardly as to have greatly lessened the condition of virtually everything that I saw. This, apparently, escaped my attention. This person doesn't offer much for sale, and when she does her items often don't sell due to her predilection for asking astronomically high prices.
03/30 Update: I was surprised that this, and most of her other items, actually fetched as much as they did.
1920'S FORTUNE Vintage WITCH GHOST MECHANICAL Halloween PLACE CARD Decoration
Although I am happy for the seller, the buyer overpaid for this 1920s Whitney fortune place card, especially considering the less-then-perfect condition. I think $55 would have been closer to the sustainable value.
4 original vintage halloween JACK o LANTERN PAPER FACES 1930's german jol
Like seemingly all of the Halloween items sold by this dealer, a long-time bane of the hobby, these inserts are more than likely not truly vintage. He sure seems to have a lot of them, huh?
HALLOWEEN BISQUE JOL JACK O LANTERN PUMPKIN VEGGIE HEAD MAN DECORATION 1930's
Would someone please buy this POS so that the collective community no longer has to see it being offered for sale again and again and again by this clueless seller? Please, buy it and take a very heavy hammer to it. Put it out of our miseries! :) Barry???
4 Diecut Circa 1930 Halloween Placecard Table Decorations Black Cats Pumpkins
All of these fine place cards were made by Hallmark. I think they more likely date to the very late 1920s.
Vintage 1920's Grinning Black Cat Halloween Candy Container Germany SCARCE NM
I am humbled by the very kind words the seller has written about me. Thanks! Most importantly, though, is this fine German candy container. I had had it in my personal collection for many years before parting with it. (I have several more similar to it and can't keep everything!) Whomever purchases this will be obtaining a truly scarce container in very collectible condition.
Antique Dennison's Illuminated Silhouettes Black Cat Halloween Box Only Vintage
Whomever bought this threw away their money. Unfortunately, this is a fantasy box. Dennison did not produce such boxes for their illuminated silhouettes, or any of their products for that matter. I noticed these being peddled over the last few years by sellers I feel are best to be avoided - like curiousimp, shadowtown and aboveindustry.
VTG HALLOWEEN DUAL-SIDED JOL LANTERN, GERMANY BEISTLE 1928
It's nice to see such a rare piece amid all the junk that has taken over the vintage Halloween category like kudzu resulting from Ebay not adequately policing the integrity of their own categories. Although not perfect, this Beistle lantern is a good one to have. As stated on page 35, "This lantern tells a great story. It is an example of the short-lived formal association Beistle had in the late 1920s with German artists and producers, hence the "Made in Germany" mark. It also shows the evolution from this curiously flat German design to the robustness of the memorable Beistle-USA lantern from 1930-31. An 8-inch version was also produced."
Comment Added 03/22: Given the condition, I feel whomever the buyer was got a solid deal acquiring this lantern for $495.32. Kudos!!
