Isn’t this utter insanity? Now, I am thrilled for the seller and the consignor, both of whom I know well and greatly admire. I am much less enamored with the two bidders who between them solely bid these four cards up beyond $1,595. What were they thinking? Yes, I get it that these cards were mint, but they surface on a somewhat regular basis and typically bring from $175-$300 each in the same condition. The prevailing bidder will pay about $815 per card. Why not exercise a little patience and obtain these later at a sustainable price? It is results like these that reinforce the growing perception that the collection of vintage Halloween items is a playground for the well-heeled.

One Vintage Halloween ROSEN 50s Trix or Treats SKELETON MOON DANCE sucker card
As is so often the case when an auction ends at a puzzlingly high price, the unsustainable ending price of $142.50 for this smile-inducing Rosen Trix or Treats cards was brought on by two determined bidders. Remove the underbidder from the equation and this would have ended right around where it should have ended, $76.
Readers, for items like these cards that surface regularly, never pay more than right around guide value, which is $70. Although I do think this is the single best Halloween card Rosen issued, why pay such a premium? Sit back and be patient - for one will surface again soon enough.
One Vintage Halloween ROSEN 50s TRIX OR TREATS sucker card MINT unused condition
Rosen made three distinct sets of their Trix or Treats cards. Set A consists of six cards, while Sets B and C consist of five cards. This is a card from Set B, the best of the three sets, produced during the late 1940s into the early 1950s. The RSIN for any one from this set is 3 and guide value is $70.
