A series of similarly designed German composition candy containers was produced during the early 1920s to which this example belongs. Some incorporated metal strips enabling a head to nod but most didn’t. (Refer to page 85 to see several others.) The blue looks quite bright making me wonder if it may have been repainted, so be sure to ask the seller to comment. I like the seller’s description - to the point without a lot of needless verbiage.

Antique German Halloween Paper Mache Black Cat on Pumpkin Candy Container
This German composition candy container looks right to me. Beginning in the 1990s, this design was reproduced, but with at least two ways to immediately spot a reproduction: the pumpkin was not much wider than the cat’s bottom and the cat was mostly smooth with none of the detailing you’d expect to see with authentic German wares.
RARE Antique German Halloween Veggie Man Composition Ornament Or Toy ca 1910
This is one you don't see often. These stringed toys or ornaments were produced early on in Germany, probably closer to 1920 than 1910, and are desirable, evidenced by the very fair price this item fetched. I've seen similarly constructed witch and devil ornaments or toys, but have an affinity for these Veggie creatures.
Antique HALLOWEEN Chalkware Figure WITCH & PUMPKIN Jack o Lantern
This is an apt example of the relationship of condition to value. This 1920s German compo candy container is one of a small set of finely crafted and detailed items made during the decade. (The other one in the collection can be seen on page 65.) Without doubt, one in near-perfect condition would bring ~$600 and up. One of my collecting rules is to buy only the best and pass on items in less than very fine condition, like this one. Else, you'll spend additional funds down the line upgrading what is, in essence, a placeholder. I'd rather have an empty spot in a collecting cabinet that have it filled with a place holder.
