Lot 85                1930s Dolly Toy Identically Dual-Sided Skull Lantern
This skull lantern was produced by Dolly Toy beginning in 1936 and then on-and-off through the early 1950s. Made from heavy cardboard, it has a slot and tab construction. It was used at least once as there is a scorch mark at the mouth on both sides. One side has a puncture to the original insert at one eye. Part of the mouth is missing from that same side. The other side’s original insert is nearly perfect. This lantern was reproduced during the mid-to-late 1990s. These reproductions are stark white. Truly vintage examples, like this, have a pronounced tan patina. The lantern measures ~7.25” high by ~6” across by ~3.25” deep. These have become scarce enough that I’ve never offered one before.
