Lot 71                  1940s Beistle Small Black Cat Transparency Lantern (BOOK ITEM)
Beistle, using their H.E. Luhrs mark, produced this black cat design as both a diecut and a transparency lantern. (The diecut wouldn’t have the slits on either side near the bottom to hold the attached base.) If you read the verbiage on the bottom, you can see that Beistle felt this design was quite versatile. These smaller transparency lanterns are seen less frequently than the larger ones. Several of both can be seen on pages 39-40. This cat measures ~8.5” high by ~6” across by ~3.5” deep. There is a closed tear at the mouth. There is staining visible from the back as if it got wet at one time. (This flaw isn’t visible from the front.) The base looks unused. This is the very item photographed for my reference book, appearing on page 40 of the third edition. This entered the collection on December 16, 1999. The buyer will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationery attesting to this provenance.
