Lot 4                     1920s Box of Socony Priscilla Candles with Partial Contents
This exceedingly rare box with two of its original six Priscilla candles intact was produced by the Standard Oil Company of New York, shortened to Socony, during the early 1920s. The box is stamped on one short end with the word, Halloween. The two extant long tapers measure ~10” high. Three iconic images in black appear on each candle, with the bottom image on one a broomed witch while the other is an arched-back black cat. The candles are unused. One long side of the box lid is partially intact. Three corners are split. The box bottom has one split corner. Prior to its acquisition I had never seen these before. The box, in fair to good condition, is a treasure.
