2653                    1921 Whitney Mechanical Stand-Up on Leaf Base
Whitney produced at least three iterations of bases for their mechanical stand-ups. The first, dating from 1920-1921, features a leaf base. (I’ve seen only 2-3 designs with this base.) The second iteration features circular yellow bases with a printed sentiment. (This iteration typically has more intricate designs and is my favorite iteration.) The third iteration is the most common. This iteration features circular orange bases with running mice. The most common element to this iteration is the JOL-headed girl. Items with this base but with something other than the girl are hard to find. This is a rare example of the first iteration. It features a JOL-headed witch holding a black cat eager to dig his claws into the mouse at lower right. It measures ~4.75” high by ~4” across. There is wear to the tip of the hat and some wear to some of the leaf’s points. The stem of the leaf is missing. There is writing on the underside of the base.
