25243                 Rare German 1930s Large Black Cat Face Diecut with Inserts
The Germans produced a dizzying number of heavily embossed diecut designs from ~1920 through 1935. (They reused a handful of these designs for a few years after WWII.) A handful of these designs were also issued with custom transparencies. The largest of these iterations – by far – was this black cat face. It measures a whopping ~13” high by ~13.5” across. This is in the second-best condition I’ve ever seen. The colors are dark and rich. There is virtually no wear to the diecut, nearly unbelievable considering its huge size and the sheer number of points along the perimeter. The only condition issues involve the custom transparencies. There is a small hole to one eye. There is a closed tear through the middle of the mouth with a small section “repaired” with tape from the reverse.
