Lot 43                Major Pieces to the Iconic 1930-31 Beistle Lantern
Beistle made this singular lantern only for the 1930 and 1931 seasons. The stunning and much sought-after lantern represents the high-water mark of Beistle artistry in its sophistication and imaginative rendering. They never used this identical artwork in any other way, which is odd considering how resourceful that firm was in smartly using and reusing their designs. The lantern seldom surfaces in complete condition – and when it does it routinely brings very strong dollars indeed. This lot consists of the two faces with completely intact inserts and the slot-and-tab top support. One face has much tape at the top slot. Aside from this, it is in very fine condition with a completely intact insert and bright colors. The second face has much less tape at the top slot. It also is in very fine condition with a completely intact insert and bright colors. The original top connecter is also included in this lot. To make a complete lantern one would need the bottom connecting piece and orange honeycomb sides. The faces measure ~11” high by ~12” across.
