Lot 40                1920s Unopened Gibson Enveloped Set of Black Cat Silhouettes (BOOK ITEM)
Gibson produced a variety of enveloped silhouette sets during the 1920s. All things Gibson have increased in price during the last ~10 years as collectors realize Gibson’s output was limited relative to Beistle and Dennison. This is an unopened envelope of eight black cat silhouettes. The envelope shows evidence of being exposed – however fleetingly – to water sometime in the long past. It measures ~4.25” high by ~5.25” wide. This is the very item photographed for the third edition and appearing on page 266. This entered the collection on October 18, 2007.  The prevailing bidder will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationary attesting to this provenance.
