Lot 29 Early 1950s Small German JOL with Original Insert
This little gem was made in Western Germany in the very early 1950s. It measures ~3” high (excluding the wire bale) by ~3.25” wide. It is quite sturdy, made from cardboard with a heavy compo wash. The detailing is exquisite and differs greatly from the run-of-the-mill JOLs produced after WWII. The colorful insert is original. There is an area at the top right of the left eye (as you look at the JOL) that has been burned away. It is hard to see. There is a small amount of wax residue at the bottom that has discolored a portion of the circular cardboard base. I believe this would have been sold at a higher-end establishment due to the workmanship. I have not seen one quite as nice as this before.
