Lot 105 1920s Czech Wood Horn w/ Witch at Cauldron (BOOK ITEM)
This horn was made in Czechoslovakia during the 1920s. It measures ~8” high. Most Czech horns are rather amateurish being painted orange and black but otherwise devoid of decoration. They are also typically quite short. This is among the largest and most ornate Czech horn noisemakers I’ve seen. Made from wood, it even has some gold color added to the mix. I like the scene of the witch frenetically tending to her cauldron. This is the very item photographed for my reference book and appearing on page 198 of the third edition. This entered the collection on September 4, 2008. The prevailing bidder will receive a handwritten note on my personal Halloween stationary attesting to this provenance.
